Prominic.NET was founded in 1998 by Justin Hill and Jon Schultz to provide expert hosting with world-class support to small and medium businesses. Prominic provides its customers with extensive knowledge and practical know-how across a wide variety of technologies. Its home-grown, US-based support team and self-owned data centers afford Prominic a robust, end-to-end control of its infrastructure unique among boutique hosting companies.
Prominic was originally located in Urbana, Illinois, in a start-up incubator, the Technology Commercialization Lab. The company quickly outgrew its leased space and, in early September 2001, Prominic purchased the space that once housed the control and communications center for Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois.
Chanute had closed during the early 1990’s, and the building sat idle for almost a decade. Affectionately nicknamed “The Fortress” due to its military grade construction, Prominic retooled the space for its dedicated data center. The Prominic.NET data center provides its customers with an enterprise-class facility and years of expansion capabilities.
In 2005, Prominic added a second facility in Champaign, Illinois, approximately 15 miles south of its facility at Chanute Air Force Base. These geographically separate data centers allow the company to offer disaster recovery and high availability environments to its customers. The locations are connected via multiple dedicated private fiber lines that provide multi-gigabit per second network speed between the two data centers.
Jon Schultz, President, has carefully guided Prominic’s business strategy throughout its history, navigating it from infancy, through multiple technology bubbles, and continually to year-over-year growth with an extensive background in information technology and managed hosting services. With years of executive experience beneath his belt he additionally lends his expertise and vision to local politics in his home city of Burlington, Wisconsin.
Justin Hill, Chief Technology Officer, began his career as an entrepreneur at age 16 when he co-founded a computer hardware company that grossed nearly $100,000 in its first year. He has 20 years’ experience in the information technology industry, in managed hosting services, hardware, and software development and remains closely involved with every aspect of the company’s innovation, keeping a focused eye on opportunities across a wide variety of networking and information technologies.
Douglas Robinson, Vice President of Customer Service, joined Prominic.NET in 2004 and has since worked shifts in sales, customer support, and internal management before being promoted to his current position in 2012. He works to bring a strong human element to the company’s support department and an empathic approach to sales and account management. Always appreciative of a luxury experience, he endeavors to ensure customers a smooth, stress-free experience through every aspect of their interaction with the company.
